Yogasana

A mind-body discipline that dates back 5,000 years is yoga, an ancient branch of Indian philosophy. Yoga is essentially a scientific and spiritual practice that aims to bring the mind and body together. The Sanskrit word "Yuj," which meaning "to join" or "to unite," is where the word "yoga" originates.
Dating back to 2700 B.C., the Indus Saraswati Valley civilization gave rise to the yoga tradition, which has elevated humanity on both a material and spiritual level. Yoga Sadhana is a practice that promotes welfare, virtue, and wisdom in individuals. Yoga is a physical workout as well as a spiritual and meditation practice in Indian traditions. In contemporary Indian traditions, however, yoga has also developed into a competitive sport that allows practitioners to do difficult yoga asanas in a healthy setting.
Thus, in order to maintain and advance yoga as a competitive sport, it was necessary to establish a national organization at the national level in order to promote "Yogasana As A Sport." India's Yogasana Bharat was founded with the intention of fulfilling such demand.

Need of Yogasana as a Sport

It is thought that yoga contests originated in India more than a century ago. Nowadays, there are numerous yoga tournaments organized at different levels throughout the world. The idea of practicing yoga as a sport has a lot of potential. As everyone knows, yoga has long been used to enhance the mental and physical health of people of all ages and fitness levels. Additionally, the sport of yogasana will help to preserve India's rich cultural legacy. Every muscle in the body is used during yoga poses. It is a particularly effective type of physical activity since it works the entire body.
People all across the world can become interested in yoga if yogasana is promoted as a competitive activity. The Indian government's Fit India Movement has gathered momentum, and it has pushed yoga as a beneficial exercise regimen to stay in shape. There has been tremendous potential for yoga to expand since the founding of International Yoga Day.
Some yoga practitioners may not initially embrace yogasana as a sport, but over time, it will become more interwoven with athletics and recognized as a means of leading a competitive and healthy life. But since there have always been contests in Indian mythology, yogasana as a sport would be readily accepted. Additionally, marketing yogasana as a sport will boost participation and preserve the rich culture it has its roots in—a time when physical fitness is valued highly.
There has been a global push by yoga institutions and groups to make yoga asana a competitive sport. Even though yoga has its roots in India, it is very well-liked in the west. In both America and Europe, there is an increasing demand for yoga. The inclusion of yoga poses as an Olympic sport would provide a broad platform for raising awareness of yoga and all of its health advantages.

Association of Yoga as a part of other SPORT

Improved respiratory control aids in lowering performance anxiety and enhancing focus. Breath control is enhanced by yoga. Enhancement in respiratory control is the key to becoming a great athlete. Yoga connects the mind and body, and athletes can gain from this combination of skill development.
Yoga poses provide gentle, consistent flexibility exercises that are perfect for active people. Frequent yoga practice releases tension from the muscles and improves range of motion and flexibility. An athlete can become more proficient with enhanced stability and range of motion. Although stability exercises are one of the best strategies to correct muscular imbalances, athletes tend to overlook them.
The majority of weight training regimens involve repetitive motions that target specific muscle groups while ignoring others. Yoga corrects these disparities. Regular yoga practice can enhance general fitness and athletic ability.
OBJECTIVES OF YOGASANA

AS A SPORT

We should preserve, cultivate and celebrate the rich ancient heritage of India in the form of yoga as a sport.

Asanas which are important components of yoga are intended to keep the body healthy.

Asanas help in exercising every muscle, nerve and gland in the human body.

Without putting any cardiovascular strain on the body, asanas aid in maintenance and improvement of health.

Practicing asanas improve athletic performance.

Asanas make our muscles strong and toned, our body flexible and helps regulate other systems of the body keeping it healthy and efficient enough to meet emergencies.

An unhealthy body cannot focus, meditate or attain a state of oneness with nature. Thus, asanas are considered as the first and the most significant stage of yoga.

Sports promote mental and physical well-being and that is precisely what Yoga stands for.
